To parents, it's just the right size with slopes that funnel the whole family to our centralized base area. Everyone loves our warm southern exposure, slope-side lodging, diverse terrain, and friendly staff!
- Cochran's Ski Area - Richmond: Starting in 1961, Mickey and Ginny Cochran operated their backyard rope-tow with the support and commitment from the local community. Working together each year to cobble together the people, machinery and never-quite-enough-snow, they were able to introduce countless kids to a favorite Vermont winter pastime. “It was always a non profit,” Mickey’s son Bobby likes to joke, “becoming a 501(c)(3) just made it official.”
- Mad River Glen - Fayston: Mad River Glen first cranked up its now famous Single Chair on Dec. 11, 1948. Roland Palmedo, the mountain’s founder, had built the Single Chair at Stowe in the 1930s. Early on in Stowe’s skiing history, he became disenchanted with vying commercial interests there and became committed to developing a new ski area where sport, not profit, would be the objective.
- Magic Mountain - Londonderry: WHERE SKIING STILL
HAS ITS SOUL. People often ask, what makes Magic so different? It all starts with the mountain itself. When Hans Thorner was searching Vermont to start a ski area in the late 1950s, he found Glebe Mountain. It’s ridge lines and steep topography reminded him of his native Swiss Alps. The trails he cut for Magic are naturally narrow and twisting and descend 1,500 heart-pumping vertical feet to our two Summit lifts—true vertical skiing. Combined with tree-skiing from boundary-to-boundary, Magic’s terrain is what separates this ski area from all others in southern Vermont and the East Coast—virtually unchanged since the 1960s.
- Middlebury College Snow Bowl - Middlebury: Family friendly winter fun for everyone! Our family-friendly ski areas are just twenty minutes from the village of Middlebury in the heart of the Green Mountains, with skiing and riding on a variety of terrain.
- Mount Snow - West Dover: We know a thing or two about a snow-filled adventure here at Mount Snow—and we sure know how to share it. With four faces of diverse terrain, stellar dining and après-ski scenes, and an atmosphere of warmth and welcome, we’ve got something for everyone, both on-mountain and off.
- Smugglers Notch - Jeffersonville: Smugglers’ Is A Family Vacation Paradise. What makes Smugglers’ Notch a unique resort is our complete and single-minded commitment to making your stay with us the family vacation of a lifetime! That is our mission. No matter what season you choose, we offer a family experience that is second to none, from the moment you arrive to the moment you have to depart.
These ski areas in Vermont provide a wide range of skiing experiences, from large-scale resorts with extensive amenities to smaller local mountains that offer a more intimate atmosphere. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced skier, Vermont's ski areas have something to offer.
Please note that it is advisable to check the websites or contact the ski areas directly for the latest information on snow conditions, lift tickets, rentals, and other details before planning your visit. Enjoy your skiing adventures in the beautiful state of Vermont!
