Purgatory Resort is located in southwestern Colorado is Colorado's biggest surprise in skiing with excellent skiing and reasonable rates. the San Juan Mountains, magnificent views of the rugged Needles Wilderness and several 14,000-foot mountains.

A family-oriented resort, The Purgatory ski mountain spans more than 2,400 acres with 723 acres of maintained terrain. 40 miles of groomed trails are blanketed by 240 inches of snow and an extensive snowmaking system is there just in case of a mild winter.

11 chairlifts serve the 75 trails, of which the longest is two miles. There are even built-in rest stops along the way on many of the trails. Snowboards are welcome and a tubing hill provides added excitement. A fully equipped child-care center is on the premises.

Purgatory Ski Area has many choices in lodging, restaurants and entertainment, both on-site facilities as well as nearby Durango which is world-famous as a tourist destination. Home of the Durango-Silverton train ride, Durango is a historic mining town with Victorian charm and history with restaurants and shopping.

Nearby you will also find Mesa Verde National Park, Telluride, Silverton and Ouray. For those who like to gamble, Sky Ute Casino is nearby. Snowmobiling, dinner sleigh rides, and night spots provide more entertainment including music and dancing. Purgatory has onsite lodging and there are many motels throughout the area.

Purgatory is easy to get to, by road or air. 325 miles from Denver via I-25 and US Highway 160, it is normally about a 7 hour drive. Air service to Durango provides easy access from other parts of the country. Some people fly into Colorado Springs and rent a car, enjoying the fantastic scenery along the way.
